BNSF rotary snowplow no. 972554 appears to be a hybrid,
of an older rotary blade and housing attached to a GP38-2.
Interestingly, the plow has a 5 axle wheel arrangement,
combining the use of an SD70 series truck with a Blomberg Geep truck

Am I mistaken that the lead axle appears to be a 33" freight wheel as a pilot wheel,
rather than a full size loco wheel, or is it just an optical illusion ?
I wonder that too.
Also is it a productive unit in summer hauling trains in the lead ?
It can't legally do that.
Doesn't have quite all of required lighting and safety appliances,
and the windshields are obstructed by the discharge chute.
But mostly, think about the number of people who drive around crossing gates...
