At this writing, I am on a trip to Ely, Nevada,
and the 'Nevada Northern Railway Museum'.

The trip is ending up being a bit slow paced,
because my wife is recovering from some health challenges.

But we are having a good time.

I will post some photos as I take them and get the processing done.

This was our locomotive for the day.

I didn't get a lot of photos of the power because I rode the train.
I elected to spend the money and ride the caboose.

Not much opportunity for photos, but we (just my wife and I),
had the rear end brakeman all to ourselves.

Here is our ride.

Not exactly smooth,
but I highly recommend paying the premium.

Riding the train is a treat,
but it is not the best way to get photos of the equipment.

The view from the cupola is great.

The bonus is the mainline is paralleled almost its full length,
by roads and highways.

Because of my wife's weakness,
I was not able to chase.

Some idea of the country this railroad runs through.

High mountain desert.

The trees on the left may be the only trees in northern Nevada.

Thanks for sharing.

I worked at the museum with my Son,
for a few years in the late 2000s early 10s.

It was/is a wonderful resource.
I am glad that you enjoyed it.

I don't know where you live, or how you got there,
but believe me, there are many trees in Nevada!

It also has some of the oldest trees on the planet,
the Bristlecones.

Nevada also has more mountain ranges,
than any other state in the Union.

Nevada is a hidden gem.
Don't tell anyone!

I love those engines and they are rebuilding a third one!
Always ride the caboose.

Steve

I rode the Nevada Northern several years ago.

Well worth the trip!

Steve is right... Nevada is a hidden gem.

A pal of mine loves this place,
and been down there a few times for photo charters.

I'd like to get down there someday,
and thanks for the heads on up getting a caboose to yourself.

I'd love to do that!

The first time I saw the Nevada Northern,
it was a freight only operation.

Hauling blister copper from near the Ruth pit,
(which had its own rail operation, under wire no less!),
to interchanges with the S.P. and W.P. near Wells and Deeth.

Usually pulled by a pair of Alco RS something or others.
Not a steamer or passenger in sight.

This was back in the 1970s of course.
