I decided to convert the Bachmann rail bus into a two way unit,
so it could be driven in either direction, not requiring a wye or turntable.

I Removed the roof and fitted a sound decoder.

I needed to fit a headlight on the trailer into the roof (Aussie flavour)
and paint yellow wide strips (Aussie flavour again).

I ended up replacing the internal LED lamps and disconnecting the side marker lights,
due to a high current draw (too much for the decoder).

Peter -

Your railbus conversion looks awesome!

What decoder are you using and what’s the sound based on,
gas engine such as Galloping Goose, gas/electric, etc?

Thanks Tom and Rod for your comments.

The decoder is not what you would expect, because I use a 20 volt system,
it rules out most American type decoders,
as they tend to smoke after a few minutes (16 volt rating).

Because I can no longer work I look for the budget priced decoders that will do the job,
so that rules out the Soundtraxx quality type decoders ($220 AU).

As a trial, I tried the Hornby brand (English decoder),
that have done the jobs quite well on a number of locos.

The bus has a 08 Diesel Shunter decoder ($95AU) that the purist won't like,
but for me with some timing program adjustments,
it does a good job until something else comes along.

A Digitrax Goose decoder in my opinion would be the ideal decoder for the bus,
as I have one in another bus critter and sounds great with resistors to drop the voltage.

Peter

The rail bus looks excellent,

I have a Coffee Pot #1 for my line.

Took the liberty of rotating 1 of your photos.

Peter

Second try, looks much better, no idea why it came out sideways the first try.

* * * * *

Sideways or upside-down photos are invariably the result of using cellphone or iPad cameras

The devices position-sensor is often confused as to which way up the device is being held

Sometimes the resulting photos or thumbnails can look the right way up when you look at them

But when they are posted sometimes they appear sideways or upside-down

Just to be clear it is NOT Freerails site software that does this but an oddity of the photo file

Nice bus Aussie flavor tastes good

:f:

Eddie
