Today my second try of the former White Pass & Yukon Route steel caboose 907 arrived from my rapid prototype supplier. A big step from my first try. Maybe I'll make the car in brass, too. We'll see. It makes a lot of fun to design the car in full 3D and get the result over rapid prototyping. Enjoy the images.

and finaly the original caboose.

More and large images on my web site.

The day will come when kits and castings are no longer offered--just cad files that can be run on the modeler's home prototyping machine. Look back not too many years, and think how outlandish the idea of sucking pictures out of your camera with a patchcord and printing 8 X 10 color shots with great detail at home---and altering the image with the same equipment was----

At some point however, technology will stagnate, because improvements will be developed so quickly that introduction and obsolescence will arrive hand in hand. The markets will balk at purchasing a concept when it is too soon incompatible with the latest and greatest

Great work Boerries and welcome to the forum! Never saw a printed complete body, only saw some parts, but this body looks great.

Lucas, thanks for your kind words. But I still like more my brass caboose 901 of the WP&YR.

But the brass caboose cost nearly 3 or 4 times more than the rapid prototype once. But for the future I think the mix of the two technologies will be the answer.
