Both Garrie Tuffords and Keith Pashina's drawings are based on best guestimates, there's only so much you can do with a limited amount of photographs. For my layout, I scratchbuilt a version, then purchased a Firebox version, and prefer the Firebox version.
As a footnote, When I did the Silver City book, I had the opportunity to interview the last living person to ride in the Caboose, her name was Juanita Franks. The first time I met Juanita I saw her with one of those two handle post hill diggers digging a post in that rocky "soil" near Pinos Altos. I commented to a co-worker that I thought it wrong to allow someones 70 year-old grandmother do that kind of work in the blazing New Mexico sun. I was pretty shocked when my co-worker told me that she was 93! I didnt interview her about the Silver City, Pinos Altos & Mogollon until she was 101. She remembered riding in it for the 4th of July celebrations, but didnt recall the color or details about the interior. Good luck on the model, and apologies for the highjack!
