"I also didn't want to use iPhones for hand-held controls
since I wanted a dedicated control for speed rather than punching in numbers on a keypad.
Well, that and the fact that I hate cell phones"

"I hate mobile phones too.
Mine can be used to talk to people, and send text messages, but is totally incapable of controlling trains.
It's nearly always turned off too!"

I'm not keen on portable phones either.
Especially the big flatscreen ones without any proper buttons.
They were a bit better in the 90's when they had decent aerials, LED number displays and big plastic buttons.

But the idea of controlling a train with one, seems about as smart as flying a plane with one of those Nintendo things.

I can understand that NASA need keypads to control space ships by punching in numbers.
Why would anyone who likes good quality model trains want to operate them from a pocket calculator though ?

"I don't know if half you RC lot read peoples forum posts properly or not?
But the thread is said by the poster to be about constructing an S-Cab RC system"

Just quoting myself from the first page of this S-Cab topic.

This topic isn't about DELTANG.
There are hundreds of threads about DELTANG.
What's the point of posting questions and answers about DELTANG here ?

"Topic title seems relevant to me.  Maybe the topic title is in error"

I just checked the relevant topic title:-

'S-Cab' R.F. control & battery-power under construction

Not sure where it says anything about discussing DELTANG though.

What do you mean by access "this forum from emails" ?

You don't look at the main RC forum menu-page ?
Or look at the Freerails main recent-page ?

You're looking at Freerails on a browser like everyone else right ?

It doesn't change what I said on the first page here anyway.

"I don't know if half you RC lot read peoples forum posts properly or not?
But the thread is said by the poster to be about constructing an S-Cab RC system"

I would have thought that a member would actually look at the topic before replying.
Otherwise posting loads of irrelevant blurb that's totally off topic is guaranteed.

It's pretty obvious from reading post 1 that the subject is using S-Cab equipment.

What I'm saying is not a trick question, or about complicated terms to understand.

It's simply that if someone has read enough of the posts to understand what it's about,
then they are likely to contribute to the conversation with good useful information.

If the person posting hasn't even read anything of what is being discussed, especially post 1,
then it is always going to be that their post isn't about the subject being dealt with.

I'm only saying this because it would be great to have at least one good topic on S-Cab,
rather than another topic that ultimately just ends up full of posts about DELTANG stuff.

There are some good people posting in this forum who know a lot about RC trains,
but the topics are often so rambling and all over the place, the expertise is watered down.

Any newcomer to RC, will find they need all the help they can get to understand it.

All the jargon and acronyms like 1S, 2S or 1C, 2C, BPRC and sometimes RCBP, dead rail,
not to mention ghz should be GHz, and mah mAh, amps has a capital letter, so does Volts etc. etc.

Half of what's posted in the RC forum must look like total gibberish, if you're not in the know.
The term DEAD RAIL is the worst, as the next post there's talk about wiring up rails for charging !

More people might be interested in RC trains, if they had half a hope of understanding it.
