I'm looking to build steam locomotive filling facilities for my On30 module,
but I'm having trouble finding what they look like on Google.

The water tower seems easy enough,
but I don't know what size planks to use for the tank.

I'd like to use this kit for the oil tank,
unless there are better options out there?

What most confuses me is the sand.
Did people just dump sand bags into the domes back then for small operations?

The logging line at Cass, WV had a regular water tower and sand tower at the locomotive shop.

The locomotives would stop at a creek about the 2/3 point going up the switch back and pump water into the loco.

I'm not seeing any images of their sand tower, but the water tower is cool.

Do you know the width of the planks on that water tower?

I do not know the width of the planks,

but it is similar to several other water towers I have seen over the years.

Look at some of the images of the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp:
