In the second link, the 4th photo down from the top is perfect. If my skills were up to it, I'd build that exact scene and photograph it in b&w. Last edited on Fri Jul 27th, 2018 02:47 pm by mwiz64

My pleasure.
"Shared joy is double joy."
Yes, it is a very interesting and still existing place.(...well, the remains, as you saw)
May be you noticed the Couillet with the cab and other parts from an O&K.
Local ingenuity keeps locos more or less alive.

This time a thread from a German forum.
No, I don't speak German at all but I've 'read' my first model railroading articles when I was still 5 and forced to ujnderstand the story from only seeing the images I don't see a reason not to enjoy a thread like the one you'll see clicking the link below.
It is H0 scale narrow gauge.
More preciselly 6,5mm gauge.
Here an appetizer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zsgpJaNDik
Here the thread (It is eight pages and really worth!!!)
https://www.stummiforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=92845
Now I'm going to see how to close my mouth.

Daniel, the Schwartzkopff locos are great! I wonder how one would appear on a US logging or mining tramway? The mind reels at the possibilities.
Thanks for the further education.

I can't wait to see your version running on Big Bend!!!
Don't forget German companies made plenty of mining and other material specially for the US.
Orenstein & Koppel had even a special catalogue.
There is a public PDF version and I will see if I can find the link again.
I don't know of any of these chain driven locos went to the US but who is the one who decides at Big Bend?

Sorry, Woodie.
I forgot that my Yahoo doesn't exist any more and with it all my links vanished for ever.
I am 99% certain our fellow Tom Bell (Teebe) has the link. I think I've got it from him.
To comfort you a bit here another page from the Zschwartzkopff (there are probably a dozen of typing errors in that name but I do what I can!) folder with a top view of one of the bogies
For our rich fellows here a place where to buy plenty of old n.g. catalogues:

Re: The Schwartzkopff loco.It is described as possessing the simplest valve gear possible, which leads me to assume, with respect to the flexibility of the trucks, some sort of slip-eccentric valve-gear was employed. You can reverse that with a partially engaging rack-and-pinion mechanism, as has been shown with RC model steamers. Any indication they employed that sort of valve-gear there? Hi Helmut
I have no understanding to answer your question so all I can do is to post here the only three pages I have from the folder.
They are not in order because when I ask Magoo to tell me the page number he looks at me and say:
_"What number?"_
So, sorry, you must solve the sequence with your probably better eyes than mine.

When I've made a kit of an 0n30 glass wagon for the FCALV Models range the only comments were funny and I had no way to prove such wagons really existed. Well, now I do:

It's, so far, the only fireless I really would like to model.
Do you have any other images or drawings of it?

How about this one?
Also built by Hohenzollern. The 'Kauz' loco is currently undergoing a major overhaul, it is the only one of this type that survived . See pictures. You can visit it here. Whether they have plans of it I don't know- but it is highly probable.Last edited on Tue Jul 31st, 2018 05:37 pm by Helmut

Oh, yes. Those three Hohenzollern have been secret loves of mine for many years.
A -German?- modeler made amazing beautiful versions of all three types
I posted the link to his thread in a German forum a long time ago (probably the NGRM Forum) but have lost it now.

Excuse me for hijacking again, but this fireless! loco is very peculiar because it features a stack - most locos of that type didn't, and has its cylinders on the front end, not under the cab as the others. Seems it was a converted standard steamer.

Hijacking?
...
I spent years trying to explain it is never more than 1% about trains, or models or any other kind of stuff.
It is 99% about people and our desire to share.
As long as you keep in mind good manners and narrow gauge you should feel you're here at home.

They talk about a system of ng railway paralleling canal borders, where they used mainly electric, but steam and diesel was also tried. The tractors, like the ones employed on the Panama Canal, were used to pull the barges along at a speed of 3..5km/h

Some of the rolling stock of the Ch. de Fer du Calvados look as if the designers have been 'au Calvados', and that Tubize 0-6-4 is a true Forney!

This time 47 pages with plenty of images many of American locos and rollingstock:

May be I've posted this here before but, as you know, my lonely brain cell is no more effective at using it's memory function. So, being certain that no one will get hurt if it is a double post, just in case, here the link to the 66 pages thread from the Spanish forum dedicated to industrial locos in Sapin:

From the first page of that album -a Davenport pulling a rake of Festiniog 'Quarryman's Coaches' crossing Britannia Bridge in Portmadoc ,Gwynedd, UK. Oh, just nitpickin': The caption referring to the train's destination is wrong. It returns from Hafod-y-Lyn to Harbour Station!

Thank you, Alwin.
It doesn't bothers me at all not having much feedback in this thread.
It is intended a bit as the stack of magazines in a waiting room.
But you mention something that has been around my head several times the last days regarding my modeling thread.
You are right.
Used to other forums where a lot was said, asked, shared, learnt, commented and laughed, I don't understand why that doesn't happens at my 'Île Du Présent' thread.
If just a few people would be seeing my posts I would conclude there is no interest or they don't like my work. But the number of visitors have no proportion with the amount of reactions.
I know my 'english' (...) is not very good and certainly not American, but I doubt that could be a reason.
I hope it has nothing to do with the silly human tendency to compare & judge.
I have been 'preaching' for years against that.
Comparing two creative works is radical nonsense but also the door to judgement wich is by definition absolute nonsense.
What am I talking about?
I would love to know everybody feels comfortable enough to say or ask whatever he/she wants without judging other's but neither the own work.
There are never 'better' or 'less good' works. Not even when made by the same person. Those who compare or/and judge are only trying to gain personal importance which is always a clear sign of sad ignorance.
Specially opinions about beginers or not too skilled fellows are often products of that ignorance.
Too many times the ignorant innosence of not skilled fellows or beginners has put questions with such clarity that just a bit of honest attention revealed a truly new approach to things that we, old bats, considered we 'knew' already.
So I hope, if there are fellows thinking they work is too good to participate in my thread, they will wake up: I know nothing so there is nothing to measure nor compare and therefore to judge. My only intention is to enjoy my hobby and share what I do but also to learn from everybody as much as I can. From those who have plenty of experience but certainly also from those with little or no experience because they look with much less prejudiced eyes than people of my age.
I don't know, Alwin. May be I'm wrong and it has nothing to do with all what I say. But you have caught a fly that has been hanging around my head for weeks.
Thank you for that!
Daniel

Hi John!!!
What a relief to read you again!
I hope you didn't take offense because I couldn't met you during your hollyday but the donut cushion story was literally a pain in de ass.
I spent almost two weeks in someone's else home just to avoid the pain of taking the tram to the hospital every time.
My bicycle was obviously not an option and so many times a taxi would made Mr. Wallet first cry, cry and cry inconsolably and then kill me.
It is good to know you are enjoying a bit my posts.

This thread contains photos for every taste.
Among other (for me)interesting stuff there are a scale drawing and an excellent photo of a beautiful German (in Spain) 600mm gauge (regauged to 750mm) in page 7.
There is also another very unusual scene wanting to be modeled at the end of page 11...

Yes,Ken.
That is the 'unusual' photo I was refering to.
Really crazy and certainly a diorama or a space in a layout worth.
An Argentine girlfriend I had a couple of years ago made me laugh a lot telling how she helped her husband (she was already a wedow when we got together) to hide in a third floor apartment in Buenos Aires a cow for almost a week!!!
Some cows do strange things...

It must have been my unconscious who, whitout my knowing, clicked somewhere ..., the fact is that since I don't know when every time I click on a French link it gets automatically translated to Dutch. That opens for me all those texts which is great. Probably you can get them also translated to your language... ...
Here a very interesting thread even if you only look at the images. You will see many known fellows probably even some from Freerails.

Well, the Mammut stuff is for those who want ultimate fidelity in scaling down the prototype, plus a watch-like precision in drive train and axle suspension. Not everybody's kettle of fish, not mine either. But they have their customers, because here in Germany the Gauge I scene is sort of special...But back to La Taupinière or better les mines de la Taupe- I'd say it's a sort of guaca -mole heap...

They appear to be compressed air locomotives of one sort or another.
Would be an interesting model if built.
Have a couple of pieces of different rolling stock people cannot figure out what they are.

The excavator is available in HO, cannot remember the name of company that has produced it though made in Europe.
Will take a look through my CM magazines, believe it was shown at the Nurnberg show this year.

Yes, thank you.
As far as I know there are is plastic H0 static version that I think is by BUSH and a 3D printed version that can be ordered in any scale but not convincing for me.
There was also, a couple of years ago, a fellow offering a working, hand built brass one of which I can't recall the scale.
The last was clearly a lot of fine work but not convincing for me and neither for my girlfriend Mss. Impatience:
after ordering one and full payment in advance should wait a full year for delivery.
I am not sure about the price because never asked but I suspect anyway it would have been considered terrorism by Mr. Wallet.
A dozen of years ago I helped to rescue from an old factory an O&K one running on 700mm gauge that was really hijacked by the vegetation.
Sadly, I lost all photos of it.
Later -I think it was 2010- I had the pleasure of photographing another one at the Smalspoor museum in Valkenburg, here in the Netherlands:
I seem to recall seeing a film, not too long ago, showing a scale model,
fully operating -can't recall the scale- but ... hmm ... may be I was just daydreaming ...
Those are technologically simple machines but I am sure a row of headaches to model. I wouldn't dare to try.
I would be happy with a static model but it would take too much of the already non available place here!
Anyway the nicest ones - both, the European and American versions- are the old.
Actually I would be happy getting the mechanic components 3D printed for building a static version of these ones.
In a river scene with the dredger loading skips that are brought to the bank on track laid across a row of boats.
I have somewhere a prototype photo of that but no idea where.

I wonder if the two french ladies (last photo in post 205) could be taken in the Ardeche. On the line which is nowadays called "Le Mastrou".
I made a trip there last year. I checked my photo's but the loco numbers do not match (403 and 414).
But in the past they had about 6 locomotives so it is still possible.

I have no idea, Alwin.
I did notice they look pretty similar to the restored ones still running, but that's all.
I suggest you contact our fellow Tom Bell (Tebee) who lives in France and knows more.
Perhaps he can bring you in contact with Sixtifs, Ives, Jacky Molinaro or other French modelers who must know more.

This I've found yesterday while digging at Delcampe's gold mine.
It shows a German installation in France during WWI.

After studying the photo my eyes were staring at each other and expecting the other to talk.
None of both did, so I wrote to my Friend Michael Carl who is German, lives in Germany and model German prototypes.
Here his answer:
"The site looks to me like a creosote plant to impregnate wooden products like sleepers and poles.
But what are the clothes doing here?
The German word "Lausoleum" is a play on words with "louse" and "mausoleum".
Lice were an annoying thread in both world wars.
So I think, the plant was used to kill the lices within the clothes with heat or maybe steam."

Saw this Chinese one for a couple o Bucks
Google translate said it was " good for maximum gallbladder trouble " !
I did have problems with my last 45 amplifier but not that bad
Needless to say I didn't buy it

They are eleven pages with in total 1055 (yes, no error: 1055) photos and they won't get you bored:
Sadly, when I lost my Yahoo account I also lost access to this Flickr 'private' area where there was also plenty to see.

Thank you , Alwin.
I thought it was but also had many doubts. Thank you for posting those iomages. It Germany to me. Is it?
I smiled when I saw, several decades ago, Minitrix's transfertable with a turntable on it. Years later I saw there are or were serious prototypes of it and the concept itself, I've learnt later, has been usual for 600mm gauge.

Hi Daniel
The huge Link in Post 315 is a bit much, as it causes the Page width to go crazy.
Also there is no information as to exactly what it is a Link to ?
Why do I want to click on this Link, where does it go, and what is its significance ?

There is a simple 'function-button' Icon in the Freerails 'Main Reply Window'.
It is there to deal with Posting Links effectively & appropriately labeling them.
It is the 'World Globe With Chain Link' in front of it Icon, top row, third from right.
Using it, allows you to Paste your Link, into the 1st 'popup-box' that appears.
After Pasting your Link into that box & clicking OK, the 2nd 'popup-box' appears.
This allows you to appropriately name, the Link you've just Pasted in, as you wish.
After that, clicking OK again, takes you back to the Freerails 'Main Reply Window'.
The Link, you've now appropriately named as you wish, using the 2nd 'popup-box',
appears where the cursor was, when clicking the 'World Globe With Chain Link' Icon.

It's OK Posting loads and loads of Links.
But it would be nice if they were Posted using the Link 'function-button', as described.
Plus of course, some description of what exactly the Link is to, and why it is of interest.
Links to YouTube videos etc. really need some text with them, describing what they are.

Eddie:
The bothering link at post #315 has been removed.
Sorry, I had no idea about any special way for posting links so will read the instructions before posting new links.
Regarding a description about the links, well, yes, it would be nice for others, as would be for me to hear people's opinions about the posts. But, sorry, I don't see any of both going to happen more often than until now.
Eventualy, if that would be a problem, I have no incovenient to post something only when I get also the desire to add a description and let the rest away.
Daniel

Thank you to have noticed my Photo Gallery.
It has been a long time since I posted new pictures in it...
and a much longer time since I visited this forum!
The reason is that I spend much time modelling narrow and standard gauge,
helping a narrow gauge modelling society to survive (GEMME)
and attending to several other French forums
(GEMME, Passions Métrique et Etroite, Loco-Revue, Forum US, Forum Train...).
I also post videos on Youtube, mainly from Super8 personal movies (look for Tyrphon).
