Hi I'm Paul and have just received permission to join.
Thanks for letting me in.

My model railway interests are varied within narrow and minimum gauges.
Over the years I have tried many scales, NZ 9mm (1:33.4th), Gn15 and more recently 1:35th.

I currently have a partially complete 1:35n42 (3'-6" gauge) layout based on Rhodesia in the 1970s.
During this period the country was in the middle of a war which included the railways,
resulting in many unique items of armoured rolling stock such as these.

For over a year I have been working on a massive kit bash to make a Garratt Class 15 locomotive,
using two plastic Trumpeter WW2 era German BR52 locomotives.

This is a static model as there is no way it would fit around the curves on my layout.

Right now I'm thinking of a small portable exhibition layout with another military theme.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Welcome to Freerails.
I would love to see more of both the Garratt and the Rhodesia layout.
It looks very promising from that photo.

Sure,

This picture features a rail crossing over a ribbon road,
a protected Internal Affairs Keep and in the background a Rhodesian Air Force Cheetah.

The vehicles are largely scratchbuilt.

As the layout is unfinished but progressing a baseboard at a time I need to provide a buffer at the end of the latest baseboard.
The elephants do the job very well and are very prototypical track obstacle for Rhodesia Railways.

Hi Paul

I just moved this layout Thread of yours, over here to 'Narrow Gauge'.  :thumb:

I hope things are going well with the 1:35n42 project, as well as your 1:48 models.  :)

I'm told that Freerails is The Internets spiritual home of "wacky scales & gauges" ! ...

... So you should feel right at home, along with a load more 1:35 & even some 42" !!

It would be GREAT to see some more of the elephants ...  ;)

... & of course the trains !  :P

Paul,

I like unusual layout subjects such as your Rhodesia RR.

Also, your vegetation is very effective.

Your name seems familiar, are you in the twin cities area?
I once lived there.
