Hi all, after looking at this site for a couple of years, I have finally taken the plunge and joined :2t:

I have been a model railroader most of my adult life (59+) and a member of a local HO Model Railroad Club here in Western Australia for 20something years.  Most of my family have been involved with trains (real or otherwise) in their lives. I have been building a 4' x 3' On30 mini layout over the last couple of years and hope to share some pics here once I figure out how to do so !! I am looking forward to getting to know you all and your creations etc.
Cheers Trev G

Hi Peter, thanks for the warm welcome. Sounds like you guys a helpful and creative bunch.
My little project is a small US mining operation set in the late 50's and run by a man who doesn't believe in "New fangled diesels and the like". Hence it runs Porters, Shays, Heislers etc. P.S. He's also a bit of a Cheapskate! I call it 'Cussalot Creek". It's about 75% complete. No weathering yet. I have weathered lots of HO rolling stock and diesels but not tackled any steam engines so at some point I may need a little guidance! Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

Hi Si, thanks for the welcome. I think I will fit right in as I tend to think 'outside the box' at times.

Hi Trev

What box ? ;)

I do kinda like the idea of the late '50s and steam.

I stuck myself with the '30s ...

... but wanted it so 'late' ...

... that my project is set on 31st December 1939 !! ;) ;)

However, strictly speaking, some of my road vehicles haven't yet been invented ! ...

... let alone become cheap 'surplus' for mining etc.

Perhaps I should move forward to 31st December 1949 !!

We'll see . . .

My little layout started out as a simple oval of used track (and a couple of old points from the junk box) fitted to a basic 4' x 3' plywood base board. It was originally built to test HO loco DCC/sound installations. I started using it to try out different scenery techniques about the same time I purchased my first On30 loco - probably the only On30 Bachmann Shay to NOT be plagued by the dreaded broken gears syndrome! And it just sort of 'evolved' into Kussalot Springs from there. I managed to post a couple of pics to The Gallery if anyone is interested.

Welcome aboard!

Due to Si and Woodie's influence I turned to 35n2 BPRC (battery powered remote control).  Right now I'm building my layout under a covered patio out in the backyard.  As soon as I reclaim some real estate from Mother Nature (trimming back bushes and trees) this layout will get moved to the great outdoors.

Boxes?  None here.  Walls?  Got rid of those too.
