Gold plated 'handwheels' !. My thanks again to John & Rod.
Beading/sewing hobby shops - yet another source I had never thought of.
John: I model in 1:48 (U.S. O Gauge, On30) & 43.5:1 (British O Gauge, Stnd Gauge, industrials & colliery stuff).
Regards, Michael

Some other places to try.
You can use materials for flying tying. Such things as moose hair, boar hair, buck tail, deer fur, duck feathers, and kangaroo fur. Fly tying shops are great for obtaining weed & tall grass materials.
Braided fishing line as cable.

Now we are digging into the really exotic stuff. Once you learn to disregard labels nobody will stop you ever again!

Yes, keep your eyes open when looking around at a craft store, fabric store, fishing store, toy stores, pharmacy, spice shelves in the food store...goodness, everywhere. And don't forget the local hobby shop that carries planes, boats, cars, etc. Remember that when a product is "made for model railroaders", you may add 40 to 50 percent to the price. Some of the best details I have found come from stores that don't carry any model trains!
