Just ahead of the first driver, there is a shaft running below frame, gear or chain drive from engine to this shaft, then geared to front driver? Just a guess, inlarging photo
still gives no definite answer.

Another kitbash, and better still.
It was a common feature (cf. 'Hops' and 'Malt' of Guiness' ) of these engines to have but one cylinder driving a flywheel, and a clutch to operate either a pulley as shown in the photo, or the drive via chains or gears.
