I just love how they are "camping" while wearing three piece wool suits and formal gowns.

Ahh to be in that generation..

Hi all,
several railway preservation societies out here in Oz have retired sleeping cars used as camping or dormitory cars for their members who often travel significant distances to put in a weekend's worth of work with the preservation society.

The Pichi Richi Railway Presrrvation Society has them at Quorn in South Australia. http://www.pichirichirailway.org.au/ The Pichi Richi Railway is about 4 hours by car away from Adelaide, so a daily run up to do "shift" and then travel back home in the one day is not really an option (especially when you have to dodge the 'roos in the dark while travelling both ways).

Lithgow Zig Zag Railway http://www.zigzagrailway.com.au/ lost 4 of these type of dormitory cars to bushfire (and also a lot of other stuff) in October 2013.

In the UK there is one available for public hire at Glenfinnan Station in Scotland http://glenfinnanstationmuseum.co.uk/facilities/sleeping-car/. This is set up to be used as a base for for hikers and rock climbers.

Do you want to include motels wher the accomadation is in re-purposed railway cars? - That's a form of camping in railroad cars :bg:
That'll do for now..

THAT was how they dressed in those days not the slovenly way we dress today!!! It was a different world

It was a time when a Gentleman never ran..he always walked... He gave up his seat on public transport to women and opened doors for them....

(By the way..Many years ago, I had a work collegue whose mother, a widow , was "seeing" a guy who had on his passport as occupation/profession?
"Gentleman of Leisure"

You would still find it hard put to beat that one today.....)

:old dude:
