Is paver base safe to use as ground cover on a layout? I won't be using it as ballast. I saw some paver base in a nice red color that would be great for look I need. Any help on this is very much appreciated.

Howdy Mark..what is paver base? Is it a powder or like maybe tile grout? Clue me in, I might be interested in it. However, watch out for a uniform "ground" color, Mother Nature uses all sorts of colors in one place.

Hi Woodie.
http://www.lowes.com/pd_384156-11106-R1PBS38L_0__?productId=3687322&Ntt=paver+base&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dpaver%2Bbase&facetInfo=
Here's a link to a similar product. I got a bag in red color. Its a mix of sand and small rocks. Its normal use is to level ground to lay paving stones for a patio or walkway. I posted on another site and got a couple responses. I saw pictures of it in a layout and it works great. Its very cheap considering how much it can cover for one 50 lb. bag. Only thing I was worried about is it magnetic at all. Even though I am not planning to use it as ballast on my layout. I like the reddish color of the product.
I just took a trip to the Grand Canyon. I really like Mountain scenery leading up to the canyon with tall pine trees, junipers, and beautiful rock faces. I want to mimic that in a way. I will be using the paver base as well as other things to add to the scenery. Trees, structures, etc..

Thanks Mark...I will drop by Lowe's and check it out. I'm always looking for scenery materials, most of mine come from the alley behind the house.

Your welcome Woodie! I just got the chopper and I am trying to make cuts with 1/4" pieces and no luck. I wonder if its the wrong type of wood? Am I suppose to soften the wood ahead of time?
Thanks Mark
