One of a handful of Panzer III “rail-cruisers” constructed with the intention of anti-partisan operations. The rail-wheels could be lifted up to allow normal off-rail operations using its treads, but when deployed, the tank could reach 100 kph on the tracks.

I wonder what would have been scarier: seeing that thing coming towards you to erase you from the face of Earth..... or riding it at roughly 60mph.... Jose.

I wonder if the crew could fire off a few rounds while cruising down the track at 60mph?  Or, would that cause the tank to go backwards momentarily?

I remember reading about B-25 Mitchells that had as many as 12 .50 caliber machine guns mounted on the fuselage.  Some even had a 75mm canon that when fired would make the aircraft pause in flight for a brief moment.

I know my ancestors built some impressive tanks, but not that fast ones. Panzer III was able to make 32kph(A-D), and 40kph(E). Their operating range in the field was 100km, burning 300/320litres of gas on the way.
Addendum:
A total of three prototypes were built, the railtruck was a semi-permanent installation. You had to use a ramp to roll on/off. Details here.

Still an interesting idea.  I still think it would scare the daylights out of you if you saw it coming your way at 20-25mph.  Might be interesting to model.
