Jose, my late friend Bill (Muj) built an HO scale model of the MKT #2 which is part of the DeGoylier collection here in Dallas. Bill said the model had a Lindsay motor upright inside the boiler and the smokestack was also a flywheel.
That last photo of the car on the flat car is really outrageous. And the redneck car is...well...

Hi Jose
Just finished fitting a 1-TERRABYTE ! hard-drive to the ol' PC ...
... plenty of room now, for all the ROCKIN' rail-cars here at Freerails.
Pleased to see the tight-fisted red-necks are saving gas !
NO SMOKING in the drivers seat !
That piece o' junk must go so slow ...
... they need the rear-view mirror to see if a hand-car is catchin' 'em !
All the best Freerail-car fans !
Cheers
Si.

I had to chime in with my own contribution. Who here has seen Top Gear UK?
Well, they tried something similar to the photos being showed hear, but they gave it some class(and classes)...

The best part of the video is in the last two minutes, but this is worth 8 minutes.

That redneck railcar seems to be missing something important: flanges!

The one you have as Hawaii is from New Zealand.
It was built by O. W. Smith - one of about 25 he built. It was preserved, but left outside to rot - I've seen a rather sad photo of the rusting remains slowly disintegrating.
The reason for the wide wheels is it was designed to run on wooden rails - not pole roads like in the US, but squared off baulks of timber.
More info here and details of the others he built here http://www.trainweb.org/loggingz/smith.html
