I've been contemplating what the color of water is, from the perspective of a model railroad builder. I've got a small harbor that needs some pigment to represent water.
Here's a link to a time lapse movie of the construction of the new MAX rail bridge in downtown Portland. Although I think that this video pretty well answers the color question, I would still be interested to hear what colors of paint other folks have used (maybe with a photo) to successfully capture the essence of that ephemeral substance.
