"Naval Gun on Manila Dagupan Railcar" (c. 1899!)

Somehow this just "looks right" for an On30 or 35n2 outlaw layout ... and "Manila Guerrillas" is fun to say! :)

Coming soon:  The Manila Guerrillas Short Line

Motto:  "Get the (bleep) outta the way!" :) :mex:

(Not too sure I'd wanna be that front gunner ...)

OK Dallas, now you done it! I will buid a "car" to be pushed ahead of the locos which will feature a couple of sombrero wearing commancheros and a couple of those fine 1:35 scale BAR's or other machine guns which I have in abundance. A box full of ammo and maybe a few grenades...and of course, a few bottles of hooch for that thankless job of being the "watchman". Beware.

Woodie

MAN oh MAN!  I got to build one of those!  I saw this little euro style 4 wheel car the other day just begging for a set up like that.
That picture is awesome.  Can't wait to see Homeland Security* in effect on the Mogllon Ry.

Carry on sir!

OK I'll 'fess up - I built an armoured train in On30 way back in 2003 as the Porter Protection Plan - a way of keeping varmints away who wanted to weather my then brand new Bachmann Porter 0-4-0 saddle tanker.

The train consisted of:
a mine-detector car (standard Bachmann On30 V-tip loaded with rocks
a spacer car - (Peco 4-wheel O-16.5 flatcar) to keep the B00M! away
MaxiBoom - Turret mounted heavy gun (timpo civil war field gun mounted in a aerosol lid on an old Triang bogie flat car with radar direction finder from a Ghostbusters car kit)
The Porter - shrouded in styrene armour with 1/35 scale .50cal above the cab on a parapet (originally I wanted a 1/48 rear gun turret from a B17 or B24 with quad .50's but couldn't find any at the time)
Multiboom - for close in fire support (Timpo Civil war Gatling gun mounted in a smaller aerosol lid on another Peco O-16.5 4-wheel flat car.
a trailing spacer car (as in car 2 above)
a trailing mine-detector car (as in car 1 above)

I'll try and find some photos - where would you like them posted to?

Hi John --

Sounds cool!  You could post them right here to this thread to go with the "theme" ... or start a new thread in the On30 section.

Hi Si and Dallas
a photo of the RH&D armoured train is up on wikipedia at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Romney,_Hythe_and_Dymchurch_armoured_train.jpg The leading wagon has a Boys anti-tank rifle and the wagon behind the loco "Typhoon" is fitted with a Lewis machine gun. There was some discussion about how the train was armed on the Gnatterbox Gn15 forum some years back.

That's a pretty cool photo. Wish we could see what the rest of the train looked like.

Hi John

Nice linkeys !

The first is 'the classic pic'...
...the one I know anyhow.

Thanks for the 2nd one...
...NEVER seen that one before.

Interesting to see the side-view.

I dunno what they thought they were gonna do with it; if half the German army came floating across the English Channel.

But I guess it made 'patroling' the coast a bit easier (maybe).

I believe the RH&DR was 'double track' all the way to Dungeness before WWII...
...when they ripped up the rails for scrap-iron...
...and never relaid it to this day.

An AMAZING and 'different' to 'most' Brit NG railways...
...I've never seen it modelled though...
...bet someone's had a bash at a bit in Gn15 though...
...or maybe OO etc.

I wanna go look now !

Cheers oxtrains

Si.

PS
My favorite 'armoured'ish (military) trains...
...I think, are from Sam Peckinpah's movie 'The Wild Bunch'.

Mexican revolution era.
One gets robbed (US Army one)
&
The other is the 'mobile HQ of the Mexican General.

Great train stuff on 'The Wild Bunch'

( standard gauge though folks ! )

PPSS
Dallas...
...I was admiring your US Army car on the 'no switch' micro-diorama...
...N I C E...
You must have a 'thing' for a military train or two ?
