I did a quick search here and didn't really find anything. Anyone have any tips for painting scenery backgrounds so it looks like a misty and rainy day with rain clouds?

Thanks in advance

I don't know if this is the effect you're after....

But this I id simply by spraying the backscene completely with white primer, and then working it down from the top with grey primer (completely grey right at the top, but very quickly breaking up in cloud-like density). It was surprisingly easy, and if I thought I had over-done it a bit - I simply oversprayed that bit with the other colour again.
Finally, i sponged in a few white cloud highlights.

Hope this helps!

Yes!! That is almost exactly what I had in mind. So other than the sponged highlights you did this with an airbrush correct?

The main thing to remember Shawn, is to have the bottom (horizon) almost white and graduating darker towards the top.   This is true whether using grays or blues.

Inspirational stuff this. I have a paling fence behind my tramway and I have to find some way of disguising it. I was thinking of having some back boards "printed" in external quality "paint" but they were not going to be cheap. This could be the answer. I like it (as they say in social media)!!
