Just finished my first batch of cacti.  These are suppose to be young saguaros.  I finished each one a little different to see what the final effect would be.  My layout is set in the Sonoran desert so I am going to need a lot of these buggers.  Your feed back and suggestions are appreciated.

Look workable to me. What are you making them from?

I carved the basic shape out of blue insulation foam. After sanding them into shape I made the ribs with my thumbnail. I coated them with kilz and then used a couple of coats of cheap acrylic to finish them. I'd like to get spines on them but haven't figured out how to do it yet.

Oh gosh, the spines.
Hang on a minute, have an idea.

Well, one idea came up empty, but another found this, look way down at image on print page 17 http://www.mrscenery.com/pdf/Cactus_Valley.pdf
Scan of article about HO scale project layout.

Woodie,  I think it was your thread that really inspired me.  Searching the web I couldn't find any good saguaros ready to plant.  Turns out I had an abundance of blue foam when it came time to carve 'em out so I gave it a shot.  Home rolled is better anyhow.
Thanks for getting the gears turning,

I put some photos of the O scale saguaros in my photos gallery. Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

Travis-those are some beautiful cacti you have made. Can you tell us how you did them?
