I bought one of these when they first came out back in 2005? with the bad decoders. Made a horricfic screech until it finnially blew up. Anyway I would like to rewire it without the DCC option and put a new head light bulb in it. The tender has all the decoder hardware and speaker in it. Electrical pickup is just in the loco itself and there are so many screws under there I am leary of which ones to mess with to get the boiler off.

So any help would be really appreciated.

Jack

Sorry, but I am not familiar with this loco. However, is there any chance of you posting a photo of the underside? I have taken many, many locos apart and might be able to tell what needs to be done. Is there no diagram availabe or did the model come without one?
BTW-welcome to Freerails, we try to help no matter what.

Woodie

No diagram. 1st loco I have ever bought that didn't have one. I will see if I can get a photo this weekend. Going to have to work out good lighting for that, since I don't have any photo floods. Will try it with my work bench lights. Might be enough.

Thanks, Jack

Hi Jack,
There was a instruction on how to remove the body on the NGtrains web site but it has now been removed.
If you remove the front truck then the balance arm under that you will find a long screw that goes into the boiler. then 2 screws under the cab and the body will be free. Then from the front lift the boiler up to about 45deg then you can remove the boiler from the pipework under the cab. Watch out for the reversing link and the boiler staies at the front when putting back together. The cylinder pipes will move a bit. The main thing is take your time and don't drop anything on the floor.
Make sure that the wheels can move up/down without fouling on any wires under or over the motor.
The tender link may require adjustment so it can rock side to side.
2 of our K27's have the chip under the boiler (mounted flat) but my K27's have the chip in the slot in front on the gearbox.

Best of luck with the install.

Neil
