Jordan - 15 Ton Mack Switcher - HOn30

I have had this model for some time but didn't have a power truck small enough to work with it. A few weeks ago I ordered a few different power trucks from the Japanese seller on ebay. I really bought them for something else but when I saw this one I thought about the Mack 15 Ton Switcher.

I decided to lay out all the parts on my printer and make a card stock copy of them. My idea was to then build enough the model in card stock to see if it would work with the B-Train Powered Motorized Chassis 1 - Bandai (N Scale):
To get the power truck ready I cut off the extra material on each end. This left the motor and wheel assembly and made it small enough. I then modified the floor piece with a different shape hole and one that would allow it to fit over the motor. This work well as it turns out. I then cut and glued the cab and front and rear hoods. These I glued onto the cab. Everything fits OK.
I sat the cab assembly on the chassis / motor and ran it awhile on my N scale test track. Since the card stock mock-up seems to fit the power truck OK I started building the plastic kit.
List of Materials:
Jordan 15 Ton Mack Locomotive - Walthers - $10.95 plus shipping.
Power Truck - B-Train Powered Motorized Chassis1 - Bandai - ebay - $22.80 plus shipping.

I modified the length of the power truck by cutting off the couplers.

I made a card stock pattern to enlarge the hole on the chassis piece to fit the power truck.

When I was happy with the fit I modified he plastic part.

I glued up the cab and hood sections. They fit fine over the power truck.

While it seemed like a good idea at the time I believe I will use a power truck with the couplers. I will make a new floor piece to extend out over the part that shows as well as making a few other changes to the way the model looks.

I added one ounce of weight in the cab and get good slow speed. My test loop is Bachmann EZ Track and I am not very happy with it. Some of the track joints are bumpy to the point when going slow the engine almost stops.
I have been running the power truck that wasn't shortened. I think I will keep that one and make a longer floor piece. Truth be know, I don't really care much for the this Mack design. I have a few ideas for some additional changes.
The model will get a Stanton Radio Control System with Battery Power, the Receiver and Battery will be carried in a follow along car.Last edited on Wed Mar 20th, 2013 11:33 pm by Bill Fornshell
