Hmmm. A steam powered model of a gasoline powered truck.

Reminds me of something that a fellow I met years ago built. He took a O scale diesel body, and put a largish model airplane engine in it, with a centrifugal clutch, and the throttle controlled by track (in those days outside third rail) voltage. Fuel for model  airplane engines in those days was 70% gas, 30% 70 weight oil (remember Muj?). which left a trail of smoke-- not so noticeable in the airplane, because the airflow thinned the smoke, and dissipated it.

Not having a O scale layout at home, he took it to the old Philadelphia Belt Line layout, in the B&O station, long since gone.

The members were mildly interested in the mechanics of the thing, and he asked if he could run it. Once the engine was started, the members looked at each other and stuck their fingers into their ears. After it had made a few laps of the very large layout, someone noticed that the track and scenery was developing a coat of oil from the exhaust. He, and his masterpiece were ushered out, and told in no uncertain words not to return.

True genius is never appreciated.
