Kadee shows On30 and On3 couplers. If you were doing On2, what (which ones) would you use?

Read this dissertation:

Bruce Metcalf on Couplers

I would go with Accumate Proto:HO. They look better than KD's and perform better.

The don't have a "hinky" side spring like KD's.

It really depends on what you're looking for.   I personally would still use the Kadee #148.   I like their look just fine but more importantly they are easy to install.

You could also go with the HO Sergent's with the Accumate Proto:HO draft gear box. They are easy to install with that box and look "real".

The are the right size for 1/4 scale 1/2MCB's

Sorry, KD's don't look like prototype couplers.

Or you could do something like this.

Someone we all know has a good tutorial on this.

Mike, your question implies you are thinking knuckle couplers, but link and pin couplers would fit on most 2-foot lines perfectly.

Here's a tutorial on how to use real link and pin couplers,

http://members.cox.net/vgniner/workbench/link/link.html

It's not for everybody, but to each his own! Have fun!

If you use the draftheads that fit in the KD boxes how do they work during a backing move. When I converted EZ-mates the draftheads just pushed to side while in a train. The draftheads had to be "rigidized".

Make LnP's from Ez-mates

"True" link and pin couplers won't work on Bachmann On30 sized cars because of the mis-alignment on tight curves:

The only way to get that combo to work is a longer link if a three-piece LnP is used.
