Hello,
I have been looking over various Ho scale forest animals,  and have seen crows, sea gulls, and hawks.  Do they not make owls, rabbits, or scale fish for river, and pond scenes?
Does any one know how the best way to scratch build these items in Ho scale? any advice would be appreciated, and I Thank you for your time.

You might look at some of the British model suppliers, they have critters like you want. Also, military diorama details include rabbits, etc. I don't know why there are no cool animals made for US modelers. Of course, so many modelers run locomotives without engineers in the cabs that a lack of other beings might be understandable.

Woodland Scenics makes raccoons at the very least. I would do a search at Walthers; I think their monthly catalog flyer has listed a set from one of the German makers with rabbits, snakes, birds, and so forth.

Artista make some small animals. They have pond critters too. I have not seen any owls though. Somewhere in my files of all things model railroading I have some paper sheets od several critters. If I find it I will post it or get it out somehow.

As for fish in the streams I have seen tiny bits of foil put in the stream bed with the water poured over them the reflection is very convincing another tip I will pass along is for store and passenger car awnings I use chewing gum wrappers

As one who used to be in HO scale, i bought some skunks from master creations........i had pretty good eyesight then....well what i got was 2 very small stones with white lines on them.  Unless an animal is modelled that is LARGE, don't waste your time buying them. If you cannot see them clearly with the naked eye *****what they are*****, you just wasted your money.

You want a model snake, model a pithon or a boaconstrictor.

Nobodys eyesight stays good forever !!!!!

For larger fish you could just print some out on some heavy paper with a regular ink-jet printer of whatever size you wish, brush each side of the paper with clear acrylic paint, let dry, then cut out with an exacto knife.

Thanks Guys, I have not found anything of the British suppliers? but some of these ideas are really good. Thanks. I sat down the other night with my magnafier glass's and mini file and number 11 Exacto blade and made an Owl our of plastic square stock that's an 1/8 of an inch. u can even see the ears. was a pain and took 2 days to cut, carve, sand and shape. Soon as I can find some one with a digital camera I will get a pic.

Hope you find your camera, would love to see some pics. I've thought about doing some carving but figured I'd just leave it to the pros and hopefully be able to buy there work.

I know I am a little late to the game as I just joined but BUSCH makes a set of HO scale critters. Product number is 1153 as you can see here. There is an owl and rabbits along with some other odd creatures. I doubt the Bees and Flys are HO though.

I guess the set does include fish too!

Jose-

I have a large box containing all the ants from a colony, which I would be willing to part with. I think that they are all there, but since you cant see them, it's hard to tell.

Got to warn you before you PM about them--I love them all--and they won't be cheap!
