Ok, being that you decided to fess up- the coffee filter cost about $1.99 at the DOLLAR store? I know that everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas, but here the dollar store sells things for----a dollar-----even the stuff that ain't worth that much.
A nice old touch is to take a very small square of the screen material and stick it on the screen panel. My old man could make Franklin's eyes water, the way he held on to a buck, so one of my jobs as a kid was to apply patches to the screens. Cut an oversize patch, remove 3 or 4 rows of wire on all sides. Bend the protruding wires right angle to the patch, and insert through screen mesh and bend over.

Bobby-that's a cool door ad! I might see about shrinking it down and making it work on the door. I remember the old Rainbo bread logo painted right on the screen, that might be a nightmare to do so I may give this one a try. Thanks for the pix.
Herbie-yep, some stuff at the "dollar store" sells for more than a dollar, at least here in Tejas. The patch idea sounds neat also, I may do a patch and the Rainbo loco provided the door doesn't get kicked in by the cantina patrons.

Yes, this has taken on a "life" of sorts. Now, what I have in mind is this-using Bobby's image of the Rainbo sign (black & white), I will "photoshop" that image so the lettering is maybe red and yellow or something like that (I don't have an ALPS printer so no white), get rid of the black field, and print the image (sized properly) on clear decal paper, and then cut closely around the lettering (not obsessing here) and apply the decal to the door. Does this work? Look:
I had this STAG beer sign decal (done by Jim-Mopman) and applied it to the screen material using liberal amounts of MICRO SOL. The clear part settled down into the screen and the "painted" lettering looks like it was painted on the screen. If you look at the real screen door, you couldn't see through the painted letters...therefore...
The decal is still wrinkled due to my wanting to show this and not letting the SOL dry. I think it works and seems pretty easy to do. Herb's patch idea is next...

Your door is excellent work Woodie !
And with all this protoype examples this has become a very interesting thread.
I personally would try the lettering with a mask and my airbrush, but from your example I think your decal method will work very good. You can only see it in very close view, that there is a transparent foil over the grid in the unpainted areas.

Woodie, that's a great idea for the sign on the screen. I don't remember signs like that on screen doors, might have been a regional thing (or more likely, I just never saw any) but the sign painted on the metal "push bar" was everywhere. I suppose that somewhere, there are people that collect them, although they must have been tossed out when the door was replaced periodically, unlike a sign fastened to a wall, which was just ignored when it became unsightly, or out of date.
I'm excitedly waiting to see the finished door---
