Here is a photo of a really funky screen door made in the usual way from basswood and "painted" with nastiness. The thing is the screen which is made from a "permanent coffee filter" found at the dollar store. This is fine nylon(?) screen which works great for a door or window screen. The door shown is 1:35 scale, but this stuff should work in O and maybe even HO. I just cut out some & glued it to the back of the door frame. The door will be installed at the local cantina so it needed to look pretty old. I will make another screen door and try to put a "Rainbo is Good Bread" logo on it. I just thought you all would like to see what it looks like.
If you are able to zoom in on the photo, you can get a really good look at the material. Cost of the screen was about $1.99 and it will make several doors or window screens. Now, back to the Bloated Goat to fix their door. Woodie

That looks very realistic.
I assume it could be used anywhere that a mesh is required. eg Fencing - Fishing nets

I had wanted to use silkscreen screen for this project but after a bunch of calls to "printer supply" companies, I found that I could get silkscreen by the yard for what I consider a chunk of change. All I wanted was enough to do this door and some window screens-there is no place to fish near Mogollon. So, the coffee filter thing worked out nice and I bought it right up the street! For chain link fencing, I would probably go to the cloth world store & get some bridal veil tulle(?) which comes in various weaves and colors. My finding the coffee filter was just another case of dumb luck-for which I have plenty of. By the way-Jackie's house is FOR SALE...life couldn't be better! Boudreaux

After all this, my buddy Sullivan brought me some scraps of real silkscreen to mess with. This stuff would REALLY work in HO, it is some fine stuff! Since the screen is yellow, I will have to figure out how to paint it with metallic gray or something and then rust it. As soon as I can figger this all out, I will send a photo. As for chain link fencing in HO up, I would still suggest bridal veil material since it has larger weave which looks more like fencing. The truth is out there...somewhere! Woodie

Taffeta from a material store is also good for chain wire mesh fencing or for emergency barricade if sprayed/dyed the appropriate colour.
