Railroads in the Woods by John T. Labbe & Vernon Goe

First found a copy in my local library, then decided I needed my own copy, as everytime I went back to look at it - it was always checked out.

A detailed history of how the narrow gauge logging railroads were designed and built (focusing on the Cascades in Oregon mostly). Packed with fantastic black and white photos of the bridges and trestles, the geared locomotives (Heisler, Shay, Willamette, Baldwin, and Climax), donkeys, floats, rigging and the loggers themselves. 258 pages, published by Oso Publishing in 1995.

It can be found on eBay if you're patient, and Amazon. Surprisingly I found my copy rather inexpensive too. I paid under $25 shipped.

I'm a Colorado mining district afficianado. Planning a layout in HOn3 based on the Gilpin County area.
