Despite being a generation (or two) younger than many modelers here, it was books from the 60's to the 90's that gave me my inspiration, then I discovered the Internet. In fact the first layout I ever made was an N scale 4x5 layout with about 200lbs of plaster on top of a 1/2" plywood base.

It was so heavy, I could barely move it. So the next layout I built used foam board, much lighter. The one after that was only 30 lbs, using a hollow core door and 2 inches of foam. So sometimes newer is better, it just depends on what you want in a model railroad.

Great models by the way, I hope you have a layout to put them on, they would look great together with some scenery.

Keep modeling.
