Thanks for your comments guys. I appreciate it. However I should have been a bit more explicit in describing my intentions.

First this layout will be usable in the winter. I expect to be running snow plows through it Yes, standing there in the snow during a blizzard and running a snow plow through Gorgeous Gorge is my ideal of model railroading. Hey, that is as close as I'll ever get to a winter sport. Don't discourage me.

Secondly, I am making the layout in five foot long modules and I intend for each section to be removable to be set up elsewhere in Connecticut and New York. Both indoors and outdoors.  Thus I do not want anything organic on my garden railroad. :shocked: That does sound strange, doesn't it? 
Also, since these modules will be transportable I want to make them as lightweight as possible. I figure on covering all the foam with ultra lightweight fiberglass. Then adhering the grass to that.
