I am most fascinated by this thread that I only discovered just now.
I was given a subscription to Model Railroader by my Dad in 1973 as a birthday gift,
this was continued for three years until the local bookstore no longer could fulfill the order.
One of the articles I remember best was the one concerning the display in St Louis, by Linn H. Westcott.
Thirty years later I bought the Polkinghorn book ... glad to hear the display is still in existence and operated from time to time!
I still have this issue, and have made scans of the Westcott article.
If there is interest (and no copyright problem) I may post them here, or put them in my gallery.
